Fits to the legs of the bridge channel, allows the bridge to pivot when you use the whammy bar. Also establishes the overall height of the bridge as adjusted via a tiny allen wrench through holes in the top of the bridge channel. The wrench is the same type as used to adjust the height of the individual bridge channels. These pivot screws can wear out over time and should be replaced every so often depending on how much you you use that bar.
