Marshall JMP 1959 Super Lead 2-Channel 100-Watt Guitar Amp Head 1973 Black SL/A7570E.

I brought this one back from England in the early '90s, put it in our warehouse and forgot about it. I've never fired it up. Overall it looks very nice. The front panel is in exceptionally nice shape for an amp of this age. The back panel is a bit scuffed here and there. The brass on the cabinet handle has oxidized to dull bronze. There is some scuffing of the cabinet corners on the bottom. There is some dust on the cabinet and especially on the top of the chassis. If you wanted to detail the vinyl covered cabinet the amp would look excellent.

As you can see from the photographs the original circuit is almost untouched. Most of the solder joints have the original undisturbed reddish varnish from the Marshall factory. Two of the solder joints on one power tube socket have been nicely touched up as depicted (see close up photo). The original top of chassis white paper inspection ticket is missing. The little red Inspection tape on the side of the chassis is intact. One power transformer mounting bolt is missing; I can probably find something 'period' in my Marshall parts stash. Two power transformer mounting bolts were turned at some point. One transformer mounting bolt still has the factory varnish and was not turned in my opinion. My best guess is that some service engineer in the past thought he might have to replace the power transformer but reconsidered. Alternatively, maybe he just tightened down some loose bolts but forgot one? You can see the power transformer wiring loom is factory correct and undisturbed.

The preamp tubes test fine and are original Marshall issue, probably East German "RFT" type. The power tubes are all Mullard. Two are original Marshall and two are very similar replacements. Tubes measured reasonably close on my Maxi-Matcher. Left to right 23, 22, 27, 24.

The bottom line? It's getting pretty hard to find original unmessed with examples of Super Leads from this storied period. I'm selling this amp "as is/as described". If you want me to bring it up slow on a Variac and form the old capacitors and do a playing test I'll be happy to do so.

I do not want to pack and ship this amp. Why? I want the buyer to see the amp and decide if they really want it or not. We offer local curbside pickup by appointment. I will consider dropping the amp off within 100 miles of here if you pay for my time and expenses. If after you purchase the amp you get here to pick it up and find that it doesn't meet your expectations I'll cheerfully refund the purchase price on the spot.
